Climate ABC: IPCC Report

13. June 2023

The IPCC report - a term you may have heard before, but what exactly is behind it? The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is an international body that regularly publishes scientific reports on the effects of climate change. These reports are incredibly important as they form the basis for political decisions and climate action strategies worldwide.

The IPCC was established in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) and the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Its aim is to collect and evaluate scientific findings on climate change and make them available to the global public and governments. The reports are based on a large number of studies carried out by thousands of climate scientists worldwide. This makes the IPCC report one of the most important and reliable documents for the scientific assessment of climate change.

So what do you find in an IPCC report? First and foremost, a detailed analysis of the current state of climate change: How are temperatures rising worldwide? Which regions are most affected? What impact is climate change having on nature and society? But the report also looks at everyday human life, such as nutrition, health and economic challenges.

Another central topic of the report is the question of how climate change could develop in the future if no action is taken. Various scenarios are presented here, based on different assumptions, such as global emissions trends. It becomes clear that there is an urgent need to fundamentally change our way of life and the way we use resources.

The IPCC report is therefore not only important for politicians, but for all of us. It shows how great the challenges posed by climate change are, but also how important it is to act now. Every contribution counts - be it through more conscious consumer behavior, more sustainable mobility or supporting initiatives for greater climate awareness.

The IPCC report calls on us to see climate action as one of the most pressing tasks of our time. It is up to all of us to take responsibility and fight for a future worth living.
